Learning outcome 4 (U3): Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief

Ive exported both my double page spread and my front cover as JPEG's
The brief explicitly said I was required to create the first edition of my magazine and that includes the front cover and double page spread. In the images above show my original front cover and double page spread. The client brief said I was required to create the first edition of my magazine, said It would include the front cover and the double page spread of the magazine. I have met this requirement from the client brief as I have created an original front cover and double page spread for my magazine which is unique for my magazine.
The client brief said the magazine is to focus on North London. My magazine does focus on the area of North London.
In the image above it says "Learn the fast routes to North London's hottest venue!"
This then shows I met that requirement as my magazine is based on North London and it even mentions it on the front cover of it.
The client brief also implicitly said that the magazine should be able to expand into other areas of London then just North London, it said if it was a successful idea then it would be expanded into the rest of London. I believe my magazine does meet this implicit requirement as a events based magazine can easily be adapted to cover the rest of London rather then just North London.

Photoshop technique: Rubber Tool:
In the image above I used the photoshop tool "Rubber", this tool was used to make the green circle more clear and to fix it and make it neater. This was done to give the circle a larger effect on the image and on the reader. The green circle is a key part of the building and gives the reader a sense of the historical importance of the building. this promotes curiosity with the reader as they could then want to find out more about the venue and whats happening there and this mysterious green circle has been highlighted from the rest of the building. This links to the local community as this part of the building can be seen from far away around the area which is recognisable to them. Alexandra Place is a iconic landmark, that is instantly recognisable to people from North London, this therefore links to the brief as this creates a strong sense of branding around the North London area. In the building itself, the rose window is it its most iconic feature, so by highlighting it, I am drawing the readers attention to it.

Photoshop Technique: Quick Selection:
In the image above I was using the tool "Quick Selection' i was using it to pick out certain elements and parts of the building to bring out for the front cover. I was doing this to highlight the key historical elements of the building, this gives the building a historical vibe which intrigues the reader to want to read the article, history is an important at of Alexandra Palace because it has stood there since 1875 and has survived two fires, therefore it is a symbol to most North Londoners. By highlighting the historical features I am drawing attention to this sense of strength within the community, this will make North Londoners feel like apart of the exclusive fan base of the magazine which will drive up sales. The local music scene is established to the building as a key venue of the area and they would want to know about the history they have been intrigued by.

Photoshop Technique: Move Tool:
I was using the photoshop move tool in the photo above, i was using the move tool to move the text box with the masthead around the front cover of the magazine. I was looking at the different possible location for the box to go into. I choose the position as shown above as it was in the right place to show it was a magazine and to get the message to the reader its a magazine and its about gig venues. For the masthead i've used a striking red background. As previously stated I wish to draw attention to the buildings many historical features. However, the brief also states that the magazine should be about a 'vibrant' music scene. Therefore, the largely black and white background juxtapose with the red of the masthead demonstrates the magazine will combine history with modern vibrancy.

Photoshop Technique: Text Tool:
In the photo above I am using the text tool on photoshop, I was using the tool to add and change text on the front cover of my magazine. I was editing the text to try give the potential readers the best idea of what was going to be inside the magazine. I used short sentences, these are to capture the readers attention and make them interested in the magazine and want to continue reading. By getting the audience interested in the magazine means establishing a loyal base and when the time comes, the magazine can be expanded to all areas of London. I decided to put most of my cover lines on the left hand side in order to create a Z pattern. This is reinforced by the stronger yellow and red image of led zeppelin in the bottom left hand corner. The z pattern is an established code and convention of magazines which I have incorporate into my own. Across the cover as a whole there is quite a lot of text and its fairly 'busy' this suggested to the reader there is a lot going on which is aligned to the client brief requiring focus on the vibrant music scene, I think i have successfully captured Alexandra Palaces thriving atmosphere.
Double Page Spread:

Photoshop Technique: Move tool:
I was using the move tool in the image above, i was moving the background image to the best position. I was finding the best position for the image to give the reader the best perspective of the image. The effect of this is curiosity as the image is of one of the most famous parts of the building and can promote nostalgia within the local area. This could make the reader want to continue reading to find out why the image being shown. I have created synergy between the front cover and the double page spread through the focus on Alexandra Places facade, i featured the rose window prominently in the middle of the page so it forms the magazine article backdrop.

Photoshop Technique: Text tool
I was using the text tool in the current image above, this was as I was beginning to write the main article of the first edition of my magazine. I wanted to give the reader all the information I could and that i wanted to give to them without it being cut off. The effect of this is that the reader is then informed with the knowledge and will know what the article is about and get all the information about it. This could make them want to continue reading to find out more about similar venues. The layout of the magazine is also shown to be simple meaning it can be easily be put into both online and print based forms. In terms of the text itself, i chose to use the nickname 'Ally Pally' instead of Alexandra Palace as most North Londoners refer to it by this name, but it isn't widely known outside the area. This means the readers will feel its exclusively for them. This links to the client brief as it has a strong sense of branding.

Photoshop Technique: Measuring tool
In the photo above I was using photoshops measuring tool. I was doing this to make sure the main articles text boxes were lined up neatly and were lined up at the top. I was doing this to make it neat to the reader and make the aesthetics of the double page spread more appealing which can make the reader happier and want to continue reading the magazine. A messy page could turn away some readers. Establishing the magazine as one of a neat can get it recognised in the local community where the new music scene is developing. According to the codes and conventions of magazines all columns should be aligned to the left and most magazines feature two to three columns across each page, I have successfully adapted this convention to my magazine. Therefore, its anchorage and professional.

I also used photoshops photo shaping tool. I was doing this to change the shape of the photo I had just inserted onto the magazine double page spread. I was changing the shape to make the image bolder and clearer for the reader to look at. When inserted the image had rounded edged which isn't that nice to look at. Therefore, by changing the image to point edges it looks more professional. The magazine can highlights features of the main article which pick up on the new developing music scene so the rest of the local area are aware of it.
In conclusion I feel that I have created a magazine with a unique selling point. It meets the requirements of the brief due to its strong focus on North London.
