My magazine proposal ( P1 (U3) and P2: (U21)
Title – The Gig
Masthead:

I have made this as masthead as it is the name of my magazine, as well it is in the colours i want as the main colours of my magazine and therefore have made the colour of the letters as well the background as such. This is also done to create brand awareness for my magazine, so this mast-head will be a sign to readers and people that pass by that this magazine is part of my brand of magazines. This is good in building up repetitive feature of the magazine for readers to recognise it and want to buy it.
Objective of the magazine(purpose): The Purpose of this magazine will be to identify location in North London and give a few facts or statistics about venues, these could be used for Gigs/Concerts. The magazine can give pointers on the location e.g. acoustics of the Venue. This could be for aspiring artists or current artists looking for a place to have a Gig/Concerts or a place to perform at.
I have made this the purpose of my magazine as I noticed there were only a few magazines in the North London area as well as London as whole, that actually advertise venues and gig places, only a few magazines gave details of these venues, with only little information and nothing helpful like direction on getting to the venue. Therefore, I have made it my objective to do just that, advertise venues as well as give detailed information on the venue, how to get to the venue, safety features of the venue etc. I believe this will be a key Unique selling point of my magazine.
A second light purpose of the magazine is to aid in charity, these will be mainly nature charities as the magazine promotes venues which have usually cleared nature areas and moved habitats which effect local animals. Therefore, some money will be given to charities to help these animals. The paper the magazine will be printed on will be recycled paper to help in the aid nature initiative.
Colour - For my logo I have chosen the two colours Red and black. I chose this colour scheme as they have a strong link to rock music and give of the connotation of rebellion. The colour scheme is popular in rock music and these connects to the genre of my magazine and is identifiable by the target audience, as in North London rock music culture is building back up and therefore can connect to this uprising scene.
Form – This magazine will be the size of an A4 piece of paper. This is too increase the movability of the magazine, so people can take it with them to the venue and read facts about the venue they are at.
This was chosen as my form as well as my colour theme as I don't want it to be too small so the readers wouldn't be able to see the images of the venues very clearly and I want my readers to be able to see the images very clearly, so a size 14 page can have large clear images of the venues they are talking about. This size isn't also too hard or difficult to carry in people's backpacks or other bags. This is important as the magazine details on how to get to the venue and the best routes to it as well as places around the venue to go before or after.
Genre - My magazine will be events based, as it covers upcoming and current gig/concert locations in North London.
Content – The magazine will have the locations of venues in north London, these could be upcoming and current venues. The content will include facts about these venues e.g. capacity. and possibly ratings of these venues.
These will be the main contents of my magazine as I want the magazine to be an explanation of venues e.g. the history of the famous venues, what to expect when going to it, what it looks like, safety features of the venues as well as interviews from artists that have played there and management of the venues to get a really well developed insight of the venue. This is all to make sure the reader gets all they need.
The magazine will also have up to date information on upcoming events in the venues in North London that readers might like to go to. This will advertise the events as well which the magazine could receive money for doing. This is also to appeal to the more mainstream and our target audience who are likely to want to look for these kind of events.

Justification: I believe this links to the client brief as it focuses on North London which the client brief calls for as well as picking up on the upcoming music scene in the local area.
Why: By focusing on the North London area also appeals to the target audience which again connects to the vibrant upcoming music scene in the area. This helps with the content of the magazine as the new music scene is changing and growing so there is always new things to talk about.

Marketing -
Twitter
For the magazines promotion on twitter, we could set up a twitter page for the magazine, this will feature the locations of which people can pick up the magazine as well as the link to the magazines website so customers are able to order the magazine online to be delivered to them. On our twitter will be information about the magazine and what it is about. On our twitter page we can hold challengers where prizes can be won, as well as even a debate on the best venues to get people tagging our twitter page.
Facebook
For our possible Facebook page we can do similar things as we were doing on our twitter page, as well as this we can utilise Facebook to our advantage as they have a live stream feature on their website, we can use this by live streaming events and gigs to our viewers and followers, i believe this would give us more follower on the Facebook. Live streaming concerts would be a good thing to do for our followers and could convince them to purchase our magazine as they would get the vents schedule from our magazine for other live streaming and challenges.
Pamphlet
As for paper based information about our magazine, we can distribute a pamphlet which could feature an article of the main magazine and bits of the main article, it will feature information of where people can buy our magazine from as well as information and links on our social media platforms so they can go follow us for chances to win prize's and take part in debates and even watch life streams.
Future cross promotion
In our future we are aiming to go from an A4 sized magazine down to a pamphlet sized magazine, this could then be sold along side big name brand magazines like Time Out and Q, this will benefit us as we could gain some followers from their many customers and improve our popularity, this could also generate us profit from the sales of those magazines as well as more followers to our Twitter and Facebook.
I choose to use the two social media platforms as my magazine's target audience age group is mainly in the younger range, and the younger ages use social media mainly so they would be the better way to get the magazine out to the readers that we are aiming for the magazine to be read by. We have also chose to use the two paper based ways as this can also appeal to the older generations who don't use social media as much.
Brand Identity
The Brand identity will also help with the marketing of the magazine, the profile pictures of the magazines social media accounts will be set to be the magazines logo as then our clients and potential clients can quickly identify the magazines social media accounts. The brand awareness will also be hopefully be increased by this which helps with the marketing of the magazine as it becomes more recognisable.
Justification: I chose these methods as it links to the client brief as the new upcoming music scene is within the younger generations who are more likely to use the social media platforms. While also being able to target the young adults with the pamphlets which could be given out in and around the venues and in the North London area.
Why: I have chosen these methods for my marketing as i believe they will be the most effective ways of advertising the magazine and getting it out there into the market. I believe them to be effective as a variety of age ranges use social media platforms so the magazine can be targeted towards a larger audience.

Distribution -
Paper based
Our paper based version of the magazine will be available to buy from newsagents etc so that readers can pick it up when walking around high streets, the paper based version will be A4 size as most magazines are.
Social Media
We will also use are social media platforms to distribute our magazine to customers and readers, this being the magazines own twitter and Facebook, this can be by advertising and posting links to where our viewers and readers can read the online version of our magazine as well having the locations of where they could go to pick up a copy of our magazine in north London.
I choose these two methods as my distribution strategies as i believe they will be the best way to get my magazine out to the public. Paper based version is good for the the older parts of my age range who tend to struggle more with modern technology. While for the younger side they are much easier to reach via social media as they use it a lot more.
Universities
The magazine could also be sold and distributed at universities. This would be a good distribution channel as it reaches the target audience directly which is mainly between 18-25 18 and 19 year olds likely to go to the gigs and concerts the magazine advertises and talks about.

At Venues
The magazine could also be directly sold at the venues that are talked about in the magazine. The venue could also pay the magazine to write an article about the venue, and then the magazine would be allowed to be sold inside the venue to advertise the venue and future events their and similar events at different venues, again being able to target the main target audience.
Justification: This again links to the vibrant upcoming music scene in North London which is mostly being done by the younger adults and teenagers. Therefore, by using social media we can quickly and easily get the word to them about the magazine.
Why: I decided these methods as they are the best ways of getting the magazine to the market. The Social media is quick and effective way. At universities means the magazine can really get to our target audience which is the ages which are at universities. Distributing at venues is an easy way to get to the readers which like to go to gigs and would likely be interested in the magazine.

Finance – The price of the subscription will be 4 Pounds a month, the price of copy will be £2. This is due to cost of the manufacturing and staff pay. This is
also for the quality of the paper which will be recycled paper, to aid charity initiative. Donations also to help raise the reputation of the
magazine and gain more subscribers. In total we will raise 2 pounds from every
subscriber sale.
Target audience –
Age wise the target audience will be 18-30 year olds. This is linked the pitch I made. As the age range for the target audience was explained due to the large possibilities for age range for the genre of Venues. For gender the magazine will not target a specific gender due to the genre of the magazine being venues, this also goes for ethnicity and race where no specific ones will be target by the magazine or marketing. For social grades, the grades B,C1,C2 and D will be target as they are the most likely to attend gigs at these venues and want to read the magazine.

Article Ideas -
Justification: I chose these as my potential article ideas to pitch to the client as these are two well known North London venues which the client would of recognised and put next to the names what could be included in the article to give the client an idea.

Justification: I chose these fonts to present to the client as they are kind of funky fonts which could possibly connect with the genre of the magazine as well as standing out to them from normal fonts. This also shows the client I had considered potential fonts for the magazines.
SWOT: (Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, Threats)
Sketch Layouts of the Magazine:
Competition:
Time Out:
Main competitor for my magazine would be Time Out though they do not have the same USP as my magazine. Time Out features detailed listings of forthcoming music concerts. This is broken down into separate section according to genre. Magazine comes out every week. When the magazine first started there was a charge for it of around £1 a week, there was also a subscription service. However, as of September 2012 it became free, though there was an option of taking out a subscription for a small charge.
Therefore, Time Out is a competitor and the fact it is free means it has captured a large part of the market. However, because it isn't solely based on venue it doesn't have the same amount of detail about each kind of venue, this gives me a USP over it.

There are also a number of local magazines in North London, many of which have features on venues. An example of this is Exposure magazine in Muswell Hill this is a free magazine produced by students. Whilst this might be a competitor in some senses, especially that it is produced by students, it still lacks the focus on venues so my USP is still valid.
